Results of four state elections are giving a strong message that government and political parties need to ensure good governance and provide corruption free rule, industry leaders said today.

"Congress has been shown the door for poor political leadership and unconvincing approach to corruption," said businesswoman Kiran Mazumdar Shaw in a stern message as the poll results pouring in showed rout-like situation for the party in at least three states.

Impressed with Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) "amazing" debut, Shaw said, "people want corruption free politics based on transparency and responsibility".

She tweeted that AAP and Arvind Kejriwal and have walked the talk on clean politics and tasted success as a result.

Meanwhile, Anand Mahindra, Chairman and MD, Mahindra Group said Aam Aadmi Party's s dramatic debut shows India still wants to be an idealistic country rather than a cynical one.

"Honesty isn't just the best policy but the best politics," he tweeted.

Mohandas Pai, Former CFO & Head-HR, Infosys said the youth are coming out to vote this time around and they do not want free food, they do not want the 'muft ka dawa', what they want are jobs.

Meera Sanyal, banker and supporter of AAP, said the election has proved that there is no TINA (There is No Alternative) factor. So, AAP has proved that there is an alternative, she added.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha said that people should wait for the party to come to power at the Centre for major bills to be passed. The election results are indicating towards a BJP-led government at the Centre, he noted.

According to CII, youth have participated actively in the electoral process and also impacted the mandate. "This is a very positive sign for the India's future both politically and socially as the youth has started accepting their responsibility and right to vote," it added.

Enam Financial's Vallabh Bhansali said that it is not a case that the market likes Congress or BJP government. The market actually likes a stable government, he noted.

On Madhya Pradesh, CII said it would enhance engagement with the re-elected government. According to the industry body, Madhya Pradesh is one of the fast emerging destinations for investments in a number of sectors like infrastructure, manufacturing, healthcare, renewable energy.

"CII will continue to work with the elected government, under the dynamic leadership of Chouhan to make Madhya Pradesh truly a manufacturing hub and a most preferred destination for investors," it said in a statement.

Religare Capital Markets MD & Head of Equities Gautam Trivedi said the equity markets would respond very positively as investors would likely read this as a win for the NDA in June.

"Inflation, corruption and lack of job creation are the main issues," he added.

Credai (Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India) Chairman Lalit Kumar Jain said that Congress defeat could force the central government to swing into action and accelerate growth, and the assembly results should serve as a 'wake up call' for the UPA.

"They need to support business especially housing sector which is in a dire situation. They would have to demonstrate efficient good governance to go into parliamentary election," he noted.

"The results of elections to five state assemblies should be a wake up call for the UPA government at Centre," Jain said.
